Bon Bini

Welcome to the sixth annual Bonaire Heineken Jazz Festival which the Bonaire Jazz Foundation is pleased and proud to present to you. Considering the number of world renowned jazz musicians that will be part of the 2010 festival you will agree that this festival will even exceed prior year’s successful musical events.

Having been awarded 5 Grammy Awards, 6 Billboard Awards and an Emmy, Arturo Sandoval is most known for his virtuoso technical ability and his specialty in high notes, but he who has heard him on the piano or trumpet, lyrically improvising a ballad, or has had the opportunity to enjoy the diversity of his music, through his compositions from the most straight ahead jazz, Latin jazz or classical, knows that Arturo Sandoval is a prominent musician, and one recognizes that Arturo is one of the most brilliant, multifaceted and renowned musicians of our time.

We are equally pleased to have Brazilian born Manny Moreira perform at this year’s festival. Manny lives and works in New York City as a musical director, arranger, producer, guitarist and vocalist. Besides being the USA State Department’s “Jazz Ambassador”, his awards and musical accomplishments simply abound.

Extremely popular in the Netherlands, Joke Bruijs and Frits Landesbergen certainly need no further introduction and their music will captivate our local and foreign guests. Finally Henk van Twillert and Tjako van Schie, leading European baritone saxophone and piano masters have left worldwide audiences in awe of their virtuosity as they will do at our Thursday, May 27 Jazz and Poetry evening at Fort Oranje.

Besides these internationally known artists we are pleased to present some of Bonaire’s best bands and entertainers. BEKU, consists of 2 well known local musicians Gaby Mercera and Ralph Moogie Stewart assisted by 3 of the best US musicians. Merietza Haakmat and Band, Kaña Brabu and the Silver Bullet Steelband will prove that although Bonaire may be small, its musical talent certainly is not. Angelo’s New Generation Dancers will offer something new to our festival and their dance performance will be enjoyed by all.

We appreciate the long lasting support of our sponsors and volunteers without whom our foundation would not have been able to present such a star-studded Jazz Festival 2011, with high quality music.

Again, we welcome our local guests and those who have come from outside our island and wish you a pleasant stay and enjoyment of our festival, with lots of great jazz!
